Donnelley, which generated $11.26 billion in revenue last year, is a printer and publisher, and like Precision Dialogue it also provides email marketing, direct mail marketing and other services.
Precision Dialogue has about 500 employees in Chicago, Westlake and Indianapolis. Their jobs are safe, according to CEO Tom Ragen. He and the rest of the company’s management team will remain on board, and the company will keep its name.
Ragen expects the company to keep growing under its new owner. Donnelley is excited to let Precision Dialogue pursue its three year growth plan. Donnelley.
“We’ve already had two sales calls scheduled for us that we would not normally have been on,” he said. Donnelley is trying to expand its ability to help its customers “measure communications effectiveness and audience engagement.”
Precision Dialogue was hunting for a buyer, given that Kirtland had owned the company for several years. Kirtland bought Northwest Mailing Service, a direct mail company in Chicago, in 2009, and it bought Metrics Marketing Group of Westlake in 2010. Kirtland merged the two companies to form Precision Dialogue in 2011.
They didn’t have to go far to find a buyer. Donnelley had previously approached Precision Dialogue to talk about a possible acquisition, Ragen said. Donnelley had been a Northwest Mailing Service’s client for years, he added. Donnelley’s headquarters in downtown Chicago. Donnelley stand out, according to Kirtland partner Jim Foley.
“Their knowledge of the market and of Precision Dialogue really helped to differentiate them as a buyer,” he said.
The other two companies will be Donnelley Financial Solutions, which will provide financial communications services, and LSC Communications, which will focus on print services for publishers and retailers.
