timberland youth boots Boots In The Stand For Super Bowl LI
Texans wear cowboy boots not everyone, but enough to justify the stereotype. And with the Super Bowl being held in Houston this Sunday, it’s a safe bet you’ll see a lot of boots in the stands.
Welcome to Tejas Custom Boots a small shop in midtown Houston that’s been described as both a showroom and a workshop.
It sounds so simple, but the process is anything but. Mike Kuykendahl has been making custom boots since 1984, and it still takes him on average six to eight weeks! And it’s not cheap.
“Our boots start around $1,450 but it goes up according to the skin,” Kuykendahl said.
The skins can vary from alligator, to shark,
to ostrich. Bush.
“Yeah it’s really cool. Just to be a part of it. If somebody like that walked through the door, it’d be really impressive,” Tejas Custom Boot Employee Chris Liggett said.
Liggett first walked through the door, he was a customer.
“Major difference. I always bought store bought boots. And I didn’t really know how uncomfortable they were until I actually put on an actual custom boot that was tailored for my foot,” Liggett said.
That’s what’s kept Tejas Custom Boots in business the last 33 years. And while they specialize in boots, they also make, among other things, bags, watches,
belts and gun cases.
