Not once during his defence did Mohamed Sail utter a word.

Instead, he let the conduct of Muhab Sultan, his 23 year old companion on the night Jeremy Cook, 18, was shot to death, do all the talking.

Sail, 26, has pleaded not guilty to second degree murder and only he, Sultan and Cook would know who fired the .40 calibre bullet into the Brampton carpentry chest after he tried to retrieve his lost cellphone that he tracked to Sultan car.

While the Crown built a case, during the last week, pointing to the car passenger, Sail, as the shooter, the defence has gently suggesting Sultan could have done it, too.

Wednesday, that suggestion got louder, although never said outright, when the defence opted to call evidence in the Superior Court jury trial, none of it from the witness box.

And Sultan, it appears, is an easy long time criminal at whom to point the finger.

For starters, he drowned in the Rideau River in Ottawa while trying to evade the police, 10 days after Cook was gunned down.

What he left behind was a paper trail of misery. The jury was told of his criminal past and Ottawa police reports of what happened in the moments before Sultan was lost in the river.

Sultan had an unenviable criminal record, replete with entries for failing to comply with court orders, possessing drugs and resisting arrest.

SAIL from A1

One entry from January 2011 described how police were called to a London store where Sultan was swearing and yelling at a woman across the street.

Sultan brother explained the driver side window of their car was smashed during an argument. Sultan was arrested for causing a disturbance, but fled on foot. He was rearrested with a cellphone and $1,400 in his pocket.

Sultan brother drove away when Sultan was arrested. Police later arrested the brother. A handgun and 15 rounds of ammunition were found in a backpack on the front seat. Also found were crack cocaine and a digital scale.

A gun charge against Sultan, defence lawyer Sharon Jeethan told the jury, was eventually withdrawn by the Crown.

The defence pointed to Sultan frantic, suspicious behaviour after Cook was shot. Within hours, he was on a Greyhound bus to Toronto. The jury already heard of text messages on his phone to his brother to back up a false alibi and to his father asking for money and informing him that the phone number was being changed.

A Canada wide warrant for his arrest for second degree murder was already out two days before he drowned when he bumped into Kerron McLean, then of Gatineau, in an Ottawa Money Mart.

McLean wasn called to testify before the jury, but Sail defence team played a videotaped police statement of McLean describing his brief and shocking association with a guy he knew as Hassan from Scarborough.

McLean had gone to the Money Mart to get a loan for a motorcycle. He was joking about the people in the store with Sultan, who was there picking up a money transfer.

said he was here a couple weeks and dealing with some family members, McLean said and called himself Hassan from Scarborough.

McLean, who told the officer in the interview that he gave Sultan his cellphone number. The next day, they hung out at McLean apartment smoking weed and playing video games.

The day of the drowning, Sultan showed up at McLean again and offered to drive him to work in a car he picked up for $200.

The Ottawa police reports read to the jury pick up what happened to Sultan after that.

Two officers on bicycles spotted a green Toyota Corolla that had pulled up in front of a Salvation Army shelter to drop off a male passenger, later identified as McLean.

McLean was picking up some things he had stored with a friend at the agency. Sultan was in the driver seat and had surprised look, when he saw the police officers and sped away, Const. Stephen Brown wrote.

The officers thought the behaviour suspicious and Brown wrote the licence plate number on his forearm.

Five minutes later, they saw the car again. It turned onto Cumberland Street and pulled over. Const. Adrian Benjamin pulled up to the driver, while Brown rode up near McLean, who was walking up the street and getting into the car.

Sultan, who kept looking around during the conversation with Benjamin, was asked why he was trying to avoid police. He answered he was parked and waiting for a friend.

He told the officer he didn have his driver licence, but was a valid driver. He said his name was Mustafa Elamin from Brampton.

Asked for his current address, Sultan was unable to give the proper spelling of the street name. Sultan was shaking as he retrieved documents from the glove compartment. The car was registered to an Ottawa owner.

Nirmala Sitharaman, today elevated to Defence Minister in the Narendra Modi Cabinet 3.0, called her appointment proof that the Bharatiya Janata Party is deeply interested in women empowerment. She, however, will have to wait two days before assuming charge of her ministry.

The Defence Ministry has a previously scheduled visit to Japan for its minister that Arun Jaitley will go on before relinquishing the post and taking full time charge of India’s finances.

Sitharaman, who was previously the minister of commerce, spoke to India Today soon after she was named raksha mantri and said that it would be challenge to fill the Arun Jaitley’s shoes. Jaitley, who held the additional charge of defence, leaves South Block to focus on the Finance Ministry.

Notably, Sitharaman will take charge as Defence Ministry only on Tuesday or Wednesday; speaking to the media earlier in the day, Arun Jaitley said that he will represent India as its Defence Minister during a previously scheduled visit to Japan. “I leave tonight for Japan, and normally the new Defence Minister should have been going. But logistically that doesn’t seem possible today being a Sunday to make the changes,” said Jaitley, who will hold a bilateral dialogue with his Japanese counterpart, ahead of a visit of Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe to India later this month.

“It is a very important security dialogue between the two countries ahead of the Japanese Prime Minister’s visit and therefore changes are not advisable. I will continue for next two days to complete the dialogue, and Ms. Sitharaman will take the charge of the ministry as soon as the dialogue ends,” he said.

Jaitley also hailed his successor Sitharaman calling her a very “competent” person for the portfolio, and said her appointment sent a positive message globally.

“I am happy with the fact that I now have a very competent successor who has worked her way up and proved herself. She has actually earned that place for herself,” he said referring to Sitharaman, who has in past worked with him as Minister of State for Finance and Corporate Affairs.

Sitharaman’s appointment comes at a time when India had gone without a full time Defence Minister for around five months Jaitley was given the additional charge after Manohar Parrikar left for Goa to head the BJP led government in Panaji. She becomes India’s first full time female Defence Minister and the only woman to hold the portfolio after former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi.

“It would take days or even weeks to settle in,” Sitharaman said, speaking to India Today TV. “I only got to know [about my appointment as Defence Minister] a few hours ago. I’ve had a briefing from Jaitley,” she added.

When asked whether her appointment could be seen in the context of Prime Minister Modi’s oft repeated theme of women empowerment, Sitharaman said, “PM Modi has always shown that he picks up on every opportunity to empower women. this [my appointment] could be one of them.”

With Sitharaman in the South Block, India will also get two women in the Cabinet Committee on Security the other one being External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj.

timberland boat shoes sale uk Defector Hyeonseo Lee Interview

Aged just 17, Hyeonseo Lee crossed the Yalu River from North Korea into China on a whim. After living secretly in China for 10 years, she finally made the journey to South Korea, but then returned in a daring bid to smuggle her family out of her impoverished homeland. Security Council, and in 2013 she gave a much f TEDTalk about her experiences.

Now living in Seoul, Lee is in the process of setting up an NGO to advocate for female North Korean defectors and refugees who are vulnerable to physical and sexual abuse.

I got a lot of warnings when I was going to Beijing. I was the first North Korean defector to return to China and speak publicly, because it really dangerous. The Chinese government doesn accept me as a South Korean citizen [all North Korean defectors automatically get South Korean citizenship] they still consider me a North Korean defector and they can catch and repatriate me.

The [South Korean] National Intelligence Service did their best to persuade me not to go; they said that they couldn guarantee my safety. It took me six months to make a decision.

I have given a lot of speeches all around the world but I thought China is the place I really have to go. I just went there and hoped that I was safe. I ended up hiding in the Beijing Airport bathroom [at one point] as I didn think I could come back or see my family again.

You lived in China secretly for 10 years. Did anyone know your real identity?

[When I was living by the border,] a Chinese person reported me to the police station, because every month there a [sweep] for North Korean defectors. My friend was repatriated in the middle of the night because of this. Somebody reported me but I was lucky as my Chinese was really good at the time and they couldn believe I was a defector.

Soon after that I moved to Shanghai as I wanted to stay far away from the North Korean defector community [by the border]. I bought a Chinese ID card and completely transformed myself into real a Chinese person. I couldn trust anyone as maybe they would turn out to be an enemy and report me.

The shocking thing is there was a girl who was my roommate for many years, and then in 2013 when I did my TEDTalk, she called me from Shanghai. She said, didn know you a North Korean defector, and I was really embarrassed. But she said, understand that you had to do it. I still felt very bad to have tricked my friend, but that the survival game.

Some people criticize North Koreans and ask, Are they stupid? How can they believe those ridiculous things? But I say, It doesn matter if you smart, if you were born in North Korea you would be exactly like us. We don know what freedom is. We have never enjoyed it. We don know what democracy is or capitalism. We are completely blocked. Not only from the outside world, but also domestically as it not easy to travel around inside North Korea unless you have a travel certificate from the regime. You only have one TV channel it a propaganda channel. We believed that utopia because we cannot compare.

Then why do so many North Koreans currently estimated at 100,000 flee into China?

Most of those who go to China are from the border region like me,
timberland pink boots Defector Hyeonseo Lee Interview
because they see the people in China live a better life than us. I was very naive. The moment I escaped to China, I didn have any money, I only had one address in my hand, of some long distance Chinese relatives. I didn know China was that big. I thought I can find their home very easily and I would come back one week later. But then I found out the address was a 10 hour drive away.

And the amount of ice cream! I was shocked. In North Korea we only have one type and it tastes like water. To me, sitting here drinking coffee with a blue sky is really freedom. It makes me feel really happy. I feel all these little things are really precious.

Do you miss North Korea?

North Korea is not the dictator country; it 25 million citizens country, and they are suffering under the dictator. North Koreans are really nice, kind, pure people. I hate the dictator and the regime, but I love my home country. I know that I can go back there. Even though the country is very dark it like a disaster it my home. Every night I go back there in my dreams. increased sanctions on North Korea. Was this the right move?

I strongly agree with the sanctions.

People worry that the sanctions will hurt North Korean citizens but won hurt the high ranking people. But that is absolutely not true. The regime provides nothing to ordinary citizens. Nothing. They don rely on the regime for any public distribution system. People rely on themselves with the market system. So the sanctions affect the regime and those earning foreign currency for the regime. Student in North Korea Underscores the Risks of Traveling There

But some people argue its better to engage the regime and have dialogue?

People who [advocate] engagement don understand the regime or the Kim family they are evil and they are smart. That the reason they don open their economy. If you engage with them you will just make them stronger and the regime will last longer.

Why are you starting your NGO now?

It called North Korean Women and it for female North Koreans living inside North Korea, in China, in South Korea and the world. Life as a North Korean defector is really painful. Women are sold as sex slaves to human traffickers or Chinese men. They are being tortured, are suffering, with no payment, but the sad thing is that even a 20 or 30 year old North Korean woman being a sex slave or being sold as human merchandise to an old Chinese farmer prefers that situation to being repatriated to North Korea. It another hell to live in North Korea.

But also [South Korean] society has prejudice. Our perspective is that we were divided for seven decades so we are brothers and sisters. But in reality, when we arrived here we are completely forgotten people from the South Korean perspective, and we are a burden for them.

Are things improving?

I arrived in [South Korea] in 2008 and was received like an alien. But things are getting better. Me and other defectors are willing to tell our stories without hiding our faces. Before they considered us along with the dictators, like we are all ridiculous human beings, but right now some South Koreans are crying with us because they realize we came here not for a vacation but we left behind everything and suffered enormously, and they have sympathy. There are some people helping North Korean students in South Korea in terms of scholarships and funding. So there positive change also.

Like razors and DEATH sticking out of it. Or a tleast a really weird print like. gold hound tooth. (Which I am using for Kijo new kimono, so don t get any ideas!) Though, I suppose that to most people neon pink is a bit nontraditional. But look, I rolled through the piles of used kimono on flea market day. There were some pretty psychotic prints and colors to be found. And look, if I forced to wear a lime green kimono that belonged to my host mom, then I really can say that neon pink is that abnormal, now can I

I keep having these dreams where I on Project Runway and I keep making the ugliest dress I ever seen. Last night I made a dress out of newspaper, even though that wasn part of the challenge and a really ugly baby blue knit shrug to go over it. What could it mean

I told Stosh that I wanted to fall asleep on someone. (Like physically on them) And Stosh inquires as to why. Now, I know he a cuddler, so I can fathom why he would question my motives! I suppose it was to be contrary. So, I replied that I derived pleasure from treating people like and object for my comfort and enjoyment. Now, whether I truly believe this or I was just being contrary as well.

Soooo. I was working at this crappy insurance agency for about six months and the other temp and I had pretty much run our of work to do so they start assigning us these stupid tasks to do in order to fill our time. timberland coat Deer are natural born killers

timberland childrens clothing Deer are natural born killers

In the daylight, they slip through our neighbourhoods barely seen, mere wisps of natural beauty.

At night, however, deer emerge full strength to do what deer do best eat. They become grazing machines with a taste for green, often targeting the plants, hedges and shrubs that border our driveways and line our yards.

Darren McMurray is operations manager at Lyons Landscaping in Kamloops. He said this the time of year when mule deer are making their presence felt in backyards across the city.

The outskirts are always harder hit, neighbourhoods closest to natural green spaces and wilder rural areas, he said.

Typically, it’s the cedar hedges where the damage is most noticed. Deer graze hedges down almost to the trunks, eating off all the green foliage as high as they can reach.

The pruning gives the hedge a shape it will never lose, McMurray said thin at the bottom and bulbous at the top.

“They take about the bottom four feet off, as high as they can reach,” he said. “They take all the green off on the cedars. They do love the cedar hedges.”

In most cases the deer won’t kill the hedges, but they destroy the very thing people sought when they planted the trees in the first place the thick cover the hedges offer.

And the trees look goofy, like large, green mushrooms thick and green at the top and brown and spindly down below.

The economic impact of deer grazing is significant as well. Many cedar hedges were planted by people who want the natural privacy those walls of green create.

The only recourse after deer have winter sheared a hedge is to pull the plants out and replace them with new ones, as the affected one will never fully regrow.

That’s a big expense, he said, in terms of the financial outlay, the labour required and the years needed to grow a hedge back to a mature state.

As a result, people want to know what they can do to protect their cedars. McMurray fields many calls this time of year from residents looking for the best ways to save their landscaping.

The best protection is fencing, he said. Bright orange snow fence,
timberland coat Deer are natural born killers
properly supported and set back a foot or two from the hedge or tree, will keep deer at bay. Burlap cloth can also work, but people need to be sure not to wrap it too tight around the tree (which can also cause damage).

Chicken wire or other such mesh fencing doesn’t do as well, unless it is set up away from the hedge, to keep deer lips from reaching green.

There are a variety of other tips and tricks people try.

Some swear by Bounce sheets, stuffed into the branches. Others hang bags of human hair, or buy commercial products that smell like coyote urine.

“(Scent products) work for a while, but the deer seem to take over after they get hungry. They are looking for a food source,” McMurray said, especially in years when the snow cover is heavy and natural food is scarce.

His advice is simple if you want to keep deer away and save the cedars, put up barriers. Lots of them. And keep an eye on those fences to ensure they don’t tip over, because if the deer get in, they do the damage in short order.

“This is the time of the year when they are causing the damage,” he said. They like our neighbourhoods because there are no predators and we offer a tremendous supply of easy food.

“Deer can become very tame,” he said.

But they make a mess, sometimes, he agrees, to the point many people see them as nothing more than large rats.

“They are very disturbing to some people,” he said.

He agrees the best protection is a good defence.

“Fencing, fencing, fencing. And have lots of dogs running around. But those deer will take on dogs any time of the year. And they will take on cats, too. It’s funny at times,” he said.

What people need to know is they must not feed deer. The deer are not nibbling cedar because they are desperate for food. Quite the contrary,
timberland coat Deer are natural born killers
they seek out diverse sources of food such as cedar and Douglas fir as part of their natural winter diet. Putting out unnatural food sources like grain or hay will not do deer any favours.

Mugabe began drawing closer to China communist leaders under a East policy when Western countries imposed sanctions on Zimbabwe in 2001 over land seizures and human rights concerns. have turned East, where the sun rises, and given our backs to the West, where the sun sets, he famously said.

Mugabe has made frequent visits to Beijing, and sent his daughter Bona to university in Hong Kong. Security Council sanctions on Zimbabwe.

Both sides portray the relationship as one between friends. But the scenes, things are a little bit different, said Derek Matyszak, a Harare based senior researcher at the Institute for Security Studies.

between China and Mugabe have been quite fractious over the past year and a half, and the current situation is going to make things worse, he said.

China is unhappy about Mugabe mismanagement of Zimbabwe economy and is believed to favour as his successor, Emmerson Mnangagwa, who seen as more of an pragmatist, Matyszak said.

Mnangagwa was elected Sunday as the new leader of Zimbabwe ruling party and is positioned to take over as the country leader.

Zimbabwe army commander, Gen. Constantino Chiwenga, visited Beijing in early November, around the same time Mnangagwa disappeared. The Chinese Foreign Ministry called it a military exchange, but the timing raised suspicions that it was anything but.

The countries military links date back to the 1960s, when China helped train and supply guerrilla fighters from the Zanu military wing in the fight for liberation. Mnangagwa, 75, was part of that effort he received military training in China in 1963, soon after he joined the fight against white minority rule in then Rhodesia.

These days, China is a key supplier of military hardware to Zimbabwe. Major sales in recent years include a radar system, jet trainers and fighters, military vehicles and AK 47 assault rifles.

A Chinese company built the National Defence College in Harare, which opened in 2014 and was financed with an interest free $98 million loan from China. The college, the biggest of its kind in the country, trains soldiers, intelligence operatives and police from Zimbabwe and other Southern African countries.

of course, wants Zimbabwe to maintain a peaceful and stable political environment, said Wang Xinsong, a longtime observer of China Zimbabwe relations at Beijing Normal University. best interest lies in ensuring a peaceful and smooth transfer of power without major turmoil. WOES

Once known as the of Africa, Zimbabwe decline accelerated with the seizure of white owned farms, sending the economy into a tailspin with skyrocketing inflation and widespread unemployment and poverty.

The lack of a clear succession plan for the 93 year old Mugabe as well as an industrial nationalization plan have contributed to political uncertainty and spooked overseas investors. World Investment Report.

Analysts believe one major reason Mnangagwa is popular with China is that he is seen as more investor friendly than Mugabe.

course, we must know that the investment can only go where it gets a return, Mnangagwa said in an interview with state run China Central Television during a visit to Beijing in 2015. we must make sure we create an environment where investors are happy to put their money because they will have a return. investors are likely holding off while they wait for a resolution, experts said.

businessmen will become more prudent, said Zhang Chun, an expert in African studies at the Shanghai Institute of Foreign Studies. those that are prepared to make an investment there, they will delay their projects. DEALS

A big source of tension between Beijing and Harare was Mugabe abrupt move to nationalize Zimbabwe diamond mines.

Two Chinese companies, Anjin Investments and Jinan Mining, had partnered with the military and become big players in the Marange diamond field in Zimbabwe east.

Mugabe, however, moved last year to revoke licenses from the Chinese and other foreign mining companies and consolidate all operations into a single company half owned by Zimbabwe government. He had apparently become alarmed that the government was missing out on revenue, blaming private companies after only $2 billion of an anticipated $15 billion had flown into government coffers since the field was discovered in 2006.

The Institute for Security Studies Matyszak speculated that Mnangagwa could reverse that move, winning favour with both the military and China in the process.

Chinese tobacco company Tianze, meanwhile, has given interest free loans and training to farmers, many of whom work on land seized from white farmers, to help beef up production and help fill cigarette demand back home.

The Beijing Automotive Group teamed up this year with two local partners in a joint venture, Beiqi Zimbabwe, selling Grand Tiger pickup trucks assembled from kits to compete with pricier imports.

China has helped build and pay for some big budget infrastructure projects in Zimbabwe, including $46 million to fund the construction of the country new parliament building in Harare last year.

Chinese state owned Sinohydro is building $2 billion worth of expansion projects at Zimbabwe two main, aging power stations to help deal with chronic electricity shortages. Chinese companies have also built a $150 million expansion of Victoria Falls International Airport and upgraded Zimbabwe busiest highway.

Other deals announced during a visit by Chinese President Xi Jinping in 2015 included building a pharmaceutical warehouse, expanding the national fiber optic broadband network and supply wildlife monitoring gear.

China and Zimbabwe have been growing closer in other ways too, although results have been uneven.

In 2015, Zimbabwe sold China 35 elephants that were moved to wildlife parks in Shanghai, Beijing and Hanghzhou. But animal conservation groups raised concerns about the plan over fears that the animals would be split up from their herds and end up living under poor conditions.

China also has an image problem among many ordinary Zimbabweans, who see it mainly as a supplier of cheap but shoddy products like shoes and kettles that have been labeled with derogatory names for their famously short lived lifespans.

Place the outdoor gas burner on a level dirt or grassy area. Never fry a turkey indoors, in a garage, or in any structure attached to a building. Do not fry on wood decks, which could catch fire, or concrete, which could be stained by the oil. (Safety tip: have a fire extinguisher nearby for added safety). Add oil to a 7 to 10 gallon pot with a basket or a rack. At medium high setting, heat the oil to 375 degrees F.(depending on the amount of oil, outside temperature and wind conditions, this should take about 20 to 40 minutes).

Meanwhile, place the turkey in a basket or on a rack, neck down. When the deep fry thermometer reaches 375 degrees F. slowly lower the turkey into the hot oil. The level of the oil will rise due to the frothing caused by the moisture from the turkey but will stabilize in about 1 minute. (Safety tip: to prevent burns from the splattering oil wear oven mitts/gloves, long sleeves, heavy shoes, and even glasses. It is wise to have 2 people lowering and raising the turkey). Immediately check the oil temperature and increase the flame so the oil temperature is maintained at 350 degrees F. If the temperature drops to 340 degrees F. or below, oil will begin to seep into turkey. Fry about 3 to 4 minutes per pound, or about 35 to 42 minutes for a 10 to 12 pound turkey. Stay with the cooker at all times, as the heat must be regulated. When cooked to 170 degrees F. in the breast or 180 degrees F. in the thigh, carefully remove the turkey for the hot oil. Allow the turkey to drain for a few minutes. (Safety tip: allow the oil to cool completely before storing or disposing). Remove turkey from the rack and place on a serving platter. Allow to rest for 20 minutes before carving.

Ready to get your GAME ON?! The objective of the game is to name FOUR KEY things (or elements) needed to improve the comfort in this bedroom picture, besides painting. Don’t over analyze it, just picture yourself in the room and name four TOP things you would change/add/remove/and or replace to make your stay in the room pleasant.

Now remember that one person’s comfort may not be another person’s delight, so don’t choose the color of the walls or the bed sheets as one of the TOP FOUR comfort infringements . think overall comfort. When you have your FOUR TOP comfort elements ready, then proceed to read the below paragraph. Don’t cheat ; ) . don’t scroll down and peek at the the image 4 answers. What are the FOUR TOP things this room needs to make it more comfortable?

So how did you do? Did you guess all FOUR?

Here is why these are the TOP priorities for transforming this room to meet comfort level:

1. Window Treatment/ Curtains:

Through the window you can see another house, so unless you are an exhibitionist ; ), you will not like your neighbors spotting your every move. If you have a view of a mountain,
knee high timberland boots Decoration Inspirations
then window treatment can be minimal, but to ensure your privacy you would need an window treatment to make you feel comfortable in your own room.

2. Taller lamps:

The guide with night lamps is that you should not be able to see the bulb within the lamp when you are reading in bed. The light will irritate you and worse harm your vision. Besides a taller lamp, the lamp should have a thinner base to accommodate the comfort of placing items on the nightstand (the lamp base shown in the picture is too wide).

3. Area rug:

Unless you have wood flooring that has a heat insulated system within the floor, then you will need an area rug to keep your feet nice and toasty when you wake up in the morning and become alert enough to find your slippers.

4. Move Bed:

Now who really enjoys walking sideways? There is enough room on the right side of the bed; therefore TAKE FULL ADVANTAGE of the space and move the night stand to the edge of the door and the bed to provide a wider comfortable walking area.

The above are all elements that are applicable for ALL styles. No matter what style you prefer (even if it’s an eclectic style), you should ALWAYS LIVE in comfort. You deserve it!

That was in 1968, when she began working at Idlewild Park Storybook Forest.

Next year, Eleanor Clark, 88, of Ligonier Township will mark a half century in the park, much of it spent as one of its two most recognizable figures she swaps roles between The Old Woman in the Shoe and Mother Goose.

timberland footwear Debbie Wingham debuts world’s most expensive shoes

Talk about twinkle toes! Designer debuts gold shoes made from rare pink, blue and white diamonds priced at $15 million making them the world’s MOST expensive pair

British designer Debbie Wingham designed the one of a kind pair of stilletos after being commissioned by an unnamed familyThe shoes are made from 24 carat gold painted leather, sewed with18 carat gold thread and decked in extremely rare diamondsWingham previously crafted the world’s most expensive dress, a Red Diamond Abaya gown priced at $15.45 millionBy

The shoes feature extremely rare large pink and blue diamonds which alone cost more than $13 million (9.8 million). On top of that, there are four flawless three carat white diamonds and 1000 pointer diamonds framing some of the iced cake like detailing.

The zippers and plaque beneath the shoes are crafted from solid gold and every one of the precious stones are set using platinum.

The handmade stilettos are even made from leather painted with 24 carat gold paint and sewed together with 18 carat gold thread. Each one is adorned withArabian Jasmin flowers, also made from leather, and the inside includesgold thread embellished inlay.

Previous feats: Wingham also designed theRed Diamond Abaya dress, which was priced at $15.45 million (11.7 million), making it the world’s most expensive garment

The design, which took hundreds of man hours to put together, was a collaboration between Wingham and Florida based contemporary artist Chris Campbell. Wingham contributed the ideas while Campbell himself made the shoes.

It isn’t the first time Wingham has crafted something worthy of royalty. She is also the designer of the Red Diamond Abaya dress which, at $15.45 million, is the most expensive garment created to date. The gown is famously encrusted withencrusted with 2000 stones in total, includingthe world’s rarest and most expensive red diamond.

Wingham has stated that the shoes will be her ‘swan song’ in terms of making the world’s most expensive items.

The reins were not hers alone to hold, of course, as even as recently as last week it was revealed that the world’s most expensive handbag was being put for sale.

Mythical: The sparkling accessory takes its inspiration from the One Thousand and One Nights

The stunning heart shaped purse is made with 4,517 yellow, pink and colorless diamonds and took 10 highly skilled craftsmen 8,800 hours to make.

The 1001 Nights Diamond Purse became the world’s most valuable bag when it sold for $3.8 million (2.9 million).

The one of a kind accessory is the work of internationally renowned jeweler Robert Mouawad, who also created the world’s most expensive bra.

Taking inspiration from the One Thousand And One Nights collection, the sparkling bag reflects themes of romance, mystery and fantasy in its design.

Glitzy:The front of the bag features a firework motif in pink diamonds working outwards from a central diamond heart

The bag will be offered to the world’s wealthiest collectors through Christie’s private sales service.

It is currently being showcased by the auctioneer in Hong Kong. It will be followed by a tour to Christie’s in Geneva and London next month.

Record breaker: Jeweller’s Victoria Secret bra valued at $9 million In 2003 Mouawad created the Very Sexy Fantasy Bra in collaboration with Victoria Secret.

It was unveiled in the brand’s 2003 fashion show and modelled by Heidi Klum.

The $9 million (6.8 million) bra included a dangling 70 carat round diamond which was cut from the second largest rough diamond ever found at the time.

The bra was certified by the Guinness World Records in 2003 as the most expensive bra ever made.

This stunning lingerie piece is completed by matching briefs hat glitter with 3,236 diamonds and colored stones, with a total weight of 200 carat.

When it comes to finances, the force has rarely been with Princess Leia’s mom.

Screen legend Debbie Reynolds (Singin’ in the Rain), who spent the 1970s wearing out her dancing shoes in a barnstorming tour to pay off a $3 million debt left by her second husband Harry Karl, is dancing as fast as she can again this time, officially declaring bankruptcy. The Debbie Reynolds Hotel Casino also filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy a move that keeps creditors at bay.

“Debbie seems to have had a string of these,” her Los Angeles based publicist Kevin Sasaki said today. The unsinkable 65 year old is scheduled to be onstage at her belly up casino’s Debbie Reynolds Star Theatre tonight, and every night of her usual Monday to Friday schedule. Her 193 room namesake hotel also remains open and continues to take reservations.

Located (or hidden) just off the Vegas Strip, the hotel was a dream of the entertainer’s that became reality in 1992, when she and then husband Richard Hamlett (Hubby No. 3), bought the land of the old Paddlewheel casino at an auction for $3 million.

It opened in July 1993, giving Reynolds a permanent home and glitzy showcase for her vast movie memorabilia collection boasting more than 3,000 costumes and 36,000 square feet of props. Among its prize jewels: Elizabeth Taylor’s headdress from Cleopatra. (For those of you keeping score at home, Taylor stole Hubby No. 1, Eddie Fisher, from Reynolds in 1959.)

Things at first looked bright for the hotel. But then, a massive problem: Debbie Reynolds’ casino lost its casino. It closed in March 1996 when the company that was running it pulled out saying the venture just wasn’t profitable.

Reynolds tried to sell the hotel to a Phoenix based company, but that deal fell through two months ago. Recent weeks saw 44 hotel employees laid off and Reynolds resign as the hotel’s chairwoman and director.

Her son, Todd Fisher, who remains president of the troubled company, says his family is handling this latest hit with a little Hollywood moxie: “The show must go on.”

For decades, farmers, lawn care workers and professional green thumbs have relied on the popular weed killer atrazine to protect their crops, golf courses and manicured lawns.

But atrazine often washes into water supplies and has become among the most common contaminants in American reservoirs and other sources of drinking water.

Now, new research suggests that atrazine may be dangerous at lower concentrations than previously thought. Recent studies suggest that, even at concentrations meeting current federal standards, the chemical may be associated with birth defects, low birth weights and menstrual problems.

Laboratory experiments suggest that when animals are exposed to brief doses of atrazine before birth, they may become more vulnerable to cancer later.

Officials at the Environmental Protection Agency say Americans are not exposed to unsafe levels of atrazine. They say that current regulations are adequate to protect human health, and that the doses of atrazine coming through people’s taps are safe even when concentrations jump.

But some scientists and health advocates disagree. They argue that the recent studies offer enough concerns that the government should begin re examining its regulations. They also say that local water systems which have primary responsibility for the safety of drinking water should be forced to monitor atrazine more frequently, in order to detect short term increases and warn people when they occur. has not cautioned pregnant women about the potential risks of atrazine so that they can consider using inexpensive home filtration systems. And though the agency is aware of new research suggesting risks, it will not formally review those studies until next year at the earliest. Federal scientists who have worked on atrazine say the agency has largely shifted its focus to other compounds.

Interviews with local water officials indicate that many of them are unaware that atrazine concentrations have sometimes jumped sharply in their communities. But other officials are concerned. Forty three water systems in six states Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Mississippi and Ohio recently sued atrazine’s manufacturers to force them to pay for removing the chemical from drinking water. and Syngenta, the company that manufactures most of the atrazine sold, say that current federal standards are based on hundreds of studies showing Americans are safe. said that it applied large safety buffers in regulating atrazine and continued to monitor emerging science.

“The exposure that the agency allows under its atrazine drinking water regulations is at least 300 to 1,000 times lower than the level where the agency saw health effects in the most sensitive animal species tested,” the statement said.

Syngenta said the lawsuits were baseless.

But the head of another government agency voiced apprehension. “I’m very concerned about the general population’s exposure to atrazine,” said Linda S. Birnbaum, director of the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences, a division of the Department of Health and Human Services. “We don’t really know what these chemicals do to fetuses or prepubescent children.”

“At a minimum, pregnant women should have access to accurate information about what’s in their drinking water,” Dr. Birnbaum added.

Atrazine is just one example of what critics say are regulatory weaknesses in the protections of America’s drinking water. is often too slow in evaluating emerging risks, not cautious enough and too unwilling to warn the public when health concerns arise. data,

and dozens of chemicals have been detected at unsafe levels in drinking water. officials conceded that they were frustrated by the limitations they face in scrutinizing chemicals like atrazine. An estimated 33 million Americans have been exposed to atrazine through their taps, according to data from water systems nationwide. and for the Senate Committee on the Environment and Public Works. is working with weak laws, basic research at the agency is often seriously underfunded, and in some cases there’s institutional inertia against change,” he added. “That’s contributed to a sense that the agency is often slow to react to new science showing risks.”

Though the hazards posed by atrazine are far from clear, some scientists and health advocates argue that the chemical deserves special scrutiny because it is so widely used. The European Union, for instance, has banned atrazine as part of a precautionary policy that prohibits pesticides that easily contaminate groundwater. (European regulators did not evaluate the chemical’s health risks.)

Atrazine, which is sold under various brand names including AAtrex, is most commonly used on corn in farming states. But it can also be found on lawns, gardens, parks and golf courses. Sometimes, the only way to avoid atrazine during summer months, when concentrations tend to rise as cropland is sprayed, is by forgoing tap water and relying on bottled water or using a home filtration system. officials note that anyone using atrazine must complete a short training course and is warned to wear long sleeve shirts and pants, as well as chemical resistant gloves and shoes, when spraying. The chemical cannot be applied near lakes, reservoirs or other bodies of water. And local water systems must produce an annual report detailing the highest concentrations of atrazine and other chemicals detected over the previous year. administrator, Lisa P. Jackson.

“Atrazine is obviously very controversial and in widespread use, and it’s one of a number of substances that we’ll be taking a hard look at,” said Stephen A.

He went on: “I can’t say whether the outcome will be any different, but Administrator Jackson has made clear that we need to take a close look at decisions made in the previous administration, and be certain about the science behind those judgments.”

The New Science

Some of the current regulations governing atrazine in drinking water were established in the 1990s. Critics say that science has changed since then but that the regulations have not.

Recent studies suggest that when adults and fetuses are exposed to even small doses of atrazine, like those allowed under law, they may suffer serious health effects. In particular, some scientists worry that atrazine may be safe during many periods of life but dangerous during brief windows of development,

Part of being an expert when it comes to debate is knowing how to find interesting debate topics. Choosing the right debate topic can make the difference between an uninterested audience and an audience that hangs on to your every word. Debate topics where there is a lot of gray area or “wiggle room” will make for the most entertaining and exciting debates.

There are numerous sources for debate topics. Debate topics can be based on religious policies, education, separation of church and state, or international relations. With all that is going on around the world today, the difficult part will be narrowing down your potential debate topics!

Debate topics can be found simply by picking up a newspaper. Newspapers and any other news source are packed with potential topics for debate. Any event or policy that will have supporters and opponents will make an excellent topic for debate. Reading political magazines and following what goes on in the government is also a good source for debate topics. It seems as though every news program, especially during an election year, devotes a segment of the show to debate, whether it be between two newscasters or two politicians.

Just by walking down the street and observing, you can find hundreds of potential debate topics. Aluminum cans in the garbage could prompt a debate on the effectiveness of curbside recycling programs. timberland work trousers Debate rages on over Cam Newton

timberland factory outlet Debate rages on over Cam Newton

The interwebs were still abuzz Monday over whether Carolina Panthers quarterback Cam Newton deserved to be benched Sunday night.

Why? For failing to wear a neck tie Saturday on the team flight up the Pacific Coast, from California to Seattle. Newton wore a turtleneck with blazer, dress pants, dress hat and dress shoes. Very stylish. Just non compliant.

Head coach Ron Rivera benched Newton for Carolina first offensive series at CenturyLink Field. That series amounted to just one tragic play, because on the game first scrimmage snap, backup QB Derek Anderson threw a ball that got tipped and fell into the arms of Seahawks linebacker Mike Morgan at the 22 yard line. He returned it 14 yards to the Carolina eight.

The Seahawks were off and running to an eventual 40 7 victory.

Debates have been raging online ever since.

First of all, as critics of Rivera action are saying, who under 40 even wears a neck tie anymore, no matter how important, momentous or solemn the occasion? Why should NFL players be forced to do so, on an uncomfortable airplane ride to boot?

And if Rivera felt he needed to discipline Newton for not complying with a fundamental team travel rule, why bench HIM? Even for one play? When if you don defeat the Seahawks, your season is done? And when Newton is not just any NFL quarterback, but the reigning league MVP?

Those on the other side of the argument say Newton can think, act or expect to be treated specially. If that the team travel rule, that the rule. And from Rivera perspective, maybe he loses face and maybe loses the locker room, if he lets Newton off the hook.

Newton after the game said that because the Panthers stayed in California all last week after losing at Oakland rather than fly home and back six days apart he didn have a dress shirt.

Why? Because on long transcontinental flights, Panthers players are allowed to wear comfortable clothing, not dress clothing. So Newton didn pack a dress shirt for Saturday flight up the coast, thinking the same exception would apply.

And, uh, he suggested he couldn buy one. All week. In California. (were) a lot of ties that were given (to players to wear), but I can wear a tie with this (turtleneck). Meaning I have a tank top on under this we discussed it internally.

thought we were on the same page. I felt as if I wore a similar outfit like this before, and nothing was done. But he has rules in place and we have to abide by them. No person is greater than the next person it is what it is. Monday, Rivera elaborated on the controversial decision.

have had to address the issue before, and I did the same exact thing. I treat everybody the same, Rivera said. not the first time, and it probably won be the last time. It just the way it is. what happened on that fateful first play, does Rivera have any misgivings? Nope.

very comfortable with it because the truth of the matter is I have to treat everybody the same. I really do, Rivera said. that all that was. There was no underlying message. There was no feud, because I done this before. It just unfortunate that the guys I did this with before weren the quarterback. NOT COINCIDENCES

It happened again,
timberland work trousers Debate rages on over Cam Newton
so it probably will happen again

1. In leading Oakland sudden and dramatic rally from a 24 9 third quarter deficit against Buffalo to a 38 24 victory, Raiders QB Derek Carr threw three touchdown passes. Carr thereby became the first NFLer to throw five game winning touchdown passes in the fourth quarter (or overtime) in one season. There still a quarter season to go. He a legit MVP candidate.

2. Kansas City Andy Reid is three wins from passing both Tom Coughlin and Bill Parcells and rising into 10th place in NFL career coaching victories with 184. Reid is winning right now at a helluva pace. Since opening last season 1 5, his Chiefs own the NFL best regular season record: 19 3. With a 9 3 record this year, the Chiefs would have to collapse to not make the playoffs, at least as an AFC wild card. Barring such a fold, and regardless of what happens in the post season, this year ought to rank as one of the finest in Reid 18 years as an NFL head coach.

3. Tampa Bay co leads the NFC North at 7 5, with Atlanta. The Bucs haven been in first place this late in a season since 2008. They doing it with a bit of everything: Clutch quarterbacking from second year passer Jameis Winston, a basket full of catches each game from wideout Mike Evans, crunch time turnovers from an improving defence and resilience on the road. On the latter point, the Bucs are 5 1 away from home, the best road record in the league after undefeated New England, Oakland and Dallas. Speaking of Dallas, that where the Bucs travel next, a week from Sunday, after this week home game against New Orleans. And speaking of New Orleans, that the season final road game for Tampa Bay, on Christmas Eve.

Inside the numbers

One of the few stats that never lies is turnovers. It can be surprising that none of the league top seven teams in turnover differential has a losing record and none of the bottom seven has a winning record.

At the top, 9 3 Kansas City leads with a plus 14 turnover differential, followed by 6 6 Minnesota (plus 13), 10 2 Oakland (plus 12), 8 4 Denver (plus seven), 6 6 Buffalo (plus six), 8 4 Detroit (plus six) and 8 3 1 Seattle (plus six).

The bottom seven: 2 10 Jacksonville (minus 18), 3 8 New York Jets (minus 13), 3 9 Chicago (minus nine), 6 6 Houston (minus nine), 0 12 Cleveland (minus nine), 4 8 Los Angeles (minus six) and 4 8 Carolina (minus six).

What a story. with the winning points in a 29 28 win. Berry said the last time he was in Atlanta during the season was two years ago, to get treatment for cancer, which he beat within eight months. He reached up and gave the pick six ball to his mom, who cared for him in Atlanta throughout his cancer recovery.

The grim toll from the Northern California wildfires continued to rise Friday as officials said that an estimated 5,700 structures were destroyed and that at least 34 people died.

Firefighters continued to gain control of some fires scorching wine country, thanks in part to continued calm winds in some parts of the region. Officials expect the death toll to rise as search efforts continue in neighborhoods from Santa Rosa to the hills of Napa County.

In Mendocino County, where at least nine people have died, officials identified three victims from the Redwood Valley: Kai Logan Shepherd, 14; Roy Howard Bowman, 87; and his wife, Irma Elsie Bowman, 88.

The teenager was found near his family’s house on the 11300 block of West Road.

The Bowmans were found in their home on the 4000 block of Fisher Lake Drive. “The residence was completely destroyed by the fire,” according to the Sheriff’s Office statement.

The Redwood Valley fire in Mendocino County has burned 34,000 acres and was 10% contained as of Friday. Between that fire and the 2,500 acre Sulphur fire, about 8,000 people have been evacuated, according to the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection.

“Steep inaccessible terrain coupled with critical fuel moistures, and northwest winds will provide challenges for crews working on the fire,” a Cal Fire incident report read Thursday night.

The town of Ukiah is quickly becoming a place of refuge for those displaced by the deadly Mendocino County fires.

Employees at Ukiah Natural Foods Co op make ham and turkey sandwiches every day for the volunteer firefighters. Officials are running an evacuation center at the high school, while the fairgrounds are home to a growing number of tents and RVs.

Magnus Kuhne Petersson, 34, his wife and their 10 month old baby fled their home in Redwood Valley and are staying at a friend’s place in Ukiah.

At Mendo Baby, a local store, the owner wouldn’t accept money for baby clothes they needed to buy, Petersson said.

The owner’s house burned down, but she still insisted on giving away the items for free, he said.

“We’re very fortunate,” Kuhne Petersson said. “The community is very strong and supportive.”

The death toll from the Tubbs wildfire in Sonoma County rose to 18 Friday afternoon and will likely continue to rise as responders pursue more missing person reports, officials said at a news conference Friday afternoon.

The Tubbs fire has consumed at least 2,834 homes and 400,000 square feet of commercial space in the city of Santa Rosa alone, and has burned 34,770 acres overall as of Friday morning. The fire was 25% contained, a jump from the 10% containment gained Thursday night.

Santa Rosa Mayor Chris Coursey estimated the flames had caused $1.2 billion in damage and destroyed 5% of the city’s housing stock.

Firefighters scrambled Friday to dig fire lines and bulldoze debris to gain an advantage over the blazes before winds pick up later in the day. Meteorologists have predicted overnight gusts of up to 40 miles per hour on ridges above 2,000 feet where the Pocket and Tubbs fires are burning, officials said.

That could cause problems for firefighters trying to restrain the fires from racing through canyons in the area.

“We’re making a lot better progress today,” said Steve Crawford, Cal Fire operations section chief for the Tubbs and other nearby fires. “We told the guys, ‘Do hard work today and by this evening when this wind comes up, we’ll be ahead of the curve.’ ”

“The emergency is not over, and we continue to work at it, but we are seeing some great progress,” added the state’s emergency operations director, Mark Ghilarducci.

After the flames from the Tubbs fire died down in Santa Rosa, Sonoma County Sheriff Rob Giordano drove through the ruins of the city’s Larkfield Wikiup neighborhood.

Twisted beams, layers of ash and garage doors crumpled like old newspapers littered spaces once occupied by tidy homes. Cars were reduced to charred frames, their wheel rims melted into rivulets of gleaming aluminum that pooled in the gutters.

“I don’t think anyone can comprehend the amount of damage,” Giordano told the Los Angeles Times. “It’s devastating. I’ve only driven maybe 5% of the fire area. I don’t even think I understand what the damage toll is going to be, and I have a better handle on it than most.”

Rescuers are still sifting through the flattened neighborhoods, looking for victims. Then hazardous material specialists will need to remove toxic substances from the areas, Giordano said.

Officials said they were working to return lost power to homes and reopen the Kaiser hospital that was evacuated when flames burned nearby earlier in the week.

Some Santa Rosa residents may be allowed to return home Saturday or Sunday, officials said Friday afternoon.

Meanwhile, the city’s residents are grasping for a sense of normality.

At a synagogue in the southeast part of the city, about 30 families in the congregation of 460 lost their homes. A former president of the synagogue died, the rabbi said.

At Santa Rosa High School, where the newspaper and yearbook clubs are using social media and word of mouth to keep a tally, students know of at least 40 classmates so far whose homes burned down.

schuh timberland boots Death of the Unique Selling Proposition

timberland safety boots Death of the Unique Selling Proposition

As marketers, we always talk about the unique selling proposition. What benefits and features make my product so unique that it stands out in the marketplace?

How many products out there have the same features? Let’s take for example, shoes. From Nike, to Puma, to Adidas. All these shoes can make you jump higher accelerate your athletic abilities what’s the big deal? How different can a shoelace be? Is there really a unique feature? That’s the first thing I learned when I joined advertising that the USP is dead.

We’re in a new capitalist era in which we are bombarded with new products and new businesses exploding everyday in a sea of competitors. The key here is to highlight and amplify the differences between products in the same niche.

The question you probably ask yourself every time you want to launch a new product is this: How do I stand out when I am in the midst of a sea of products offering the same features and benefits?

What are the alternatives to a dying USP?

The USP has transitioned into the UEP the unique emotional proposition. The progression has gone from “what does this product do?” to “how does this product make me feel?”

With the exception of perhaps technical products where technological advances often do have a USP, UEP is becoming increasingly more and more important.

But do you know what? UEPs are already common in the branding world! As the UEP becomes saturated, a new marketing trend is emerging; the USP that gets you asking, “Who I Am?” It’s the unique spiritual proposition.

However, most people won’t reach this level in the next few years, but a lot of good branding you see has the U Spiritual P edge and this will likely become more common in future.

The progression from ‘how I feel’ to ‘who I am’ defining one’s inner being is almost subtle:

USP (what does this product do?) >

UEP (what does this product make me feel?) >

USP (how does this product determine who I am?).

Let’s go back to the shoe example. You don’t hear pitches like ‘these shoes make you 100% faster’, or ‘1000% more productivity with your feet’. No, marketing now taps into one’s inner core.

Nike says: Just do it.

Adidas: Impossible is nothing.

And even Reebok: I am what I am.

The key now is, don’t only think of a USP for your products. Always come up with a UEP as well. It’s the only way to keep abreast of today’s online market.
